Fire Department Makes Case For New Vehicle

In emergencies, it could mean faster and more efficient responses from the Watertown Fire Department.

The department wants a new and bigger vehicle.

The 4x4 truck would be able to tow the department's heaviest trailer, which weights about 15,000 pounds.

Fire officials say their current truck has trouble towing the load.

But to get the new truck, the department needs approval from city council to apply for a state grant.

"We feel that we can provide better service with a much more reliable, more capable vehicle that what we currently have in our fleet," said Dale Herman, fire chief.

Although city council has tabled the fire department's application, Chief Herman hopes it'll be approved at the next meeting on September 3.
