Fire Sweeps Through Abandoned Home

Firefighters are on the scene of a blaze at an abandoned home in the Jefferson County town of Champion.

Volunteers from four departments were called to Lee Road at approximately 11:20 a.m.

According to Rick Thomas, who knows the property owners, the house has been empty for at least ten years.

"All the windows are boarded up. All the doors are boarded shut. There's no power to it. Nobody lives in it. Whether it was just kids playing in it or what, who knows," said Thomas.

Officials are now trying to pinpoint the cause of the fire.
