First Day For First Niagara Bank

It was the first day for First Niagara in the north country.

The bank in Evans Mills was among several branches opening under a new name and new owners.

The Buffalo-based First Niagara took over four HSBC banks in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.

Several customers we spoke with said it was hard to tell there was any change.

"I was able to deposit my money just fine and it took about five minutes to get in and out so I'm pretty happy," said customer Anne Wichelns.

Other banks changing names and owners were in Carthage, Massena and Potsdam.
