First Free Movie Night A Success

Lawn chairs and sleeping bags took over the Watertown Fairgrounds Wednesday night.

It was free-movie night.

Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax" played on a 25-foot screen for more than 1,000 people.

Not only was the movie free, but so was popcorn, soda and water.

Officials say the event was designed to bring the community together.

"We wanted to offer something for the community at no cost," said Erin Gardner, Watertown's superintendent of parks and recreation.

"As you can see, it just brings out a ton of people and it looks to be popular for our first one, so we're hoping to do many more."

Officials say they hope to put on another movie night next month.

It was sponsored jointly by the city's parks and recreation department and the Greater Watertown North Country Chamber of Commerce.
