Flags At Half Staff For Fort Drum Soldiers Killed In Action

Flags were flying at half staff on state government buildings Friday in honor of two Fort Drum soldiers who died in Afghanistan last week.

Pvt. 1st Class Jose O. Belmontes of La Verne, California, and Sgt. 1st Class Bobby L. Estle of Lebanon, Ohio, died of injuries sustained from enemy small arms fire in Wardak Province, Afghanistan on July 28.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo directed state flags to be lowered in tribute to the soldiers, who were both assigned to the 630th Engineer Company of the 7th Engineer Battalion of the 10th Mountain Division’s 10th Sustainment Brigade.
