Flooding Devastates Ellisburg Campground

Welcome to Up The Creek Campground in the town of Ellisburg.

A YouTube video shows it's snow-covered, ice-ridden, and in some cases, even underwater.

It was a devastating sight for the owner of one camper.

"When I first saw the video, I pretty much dropped to the floor," said Renee Paone.

Paone says the camper is her summer home.

Currently staying at her winter home in Myrtle Beach, she says a friend trekked through the campground, flooded by Sandy Creek, to get the video.

After one look, she knew everything was gone.

"I just can't imagine. And once it gets cold again and the stuff is going to freeze and crack and it's going to be a mess in there and once the walls start to dry out, it's just, we're going to have to gut the whole thing," said Paone.

With ice and debris covering much of the road and the campground itself, Paone says it could be months before she's able to get in and dig her camper out.

"They would basically have to be pulled through the grass and mud. So, yes, it will be months before any of us can get them out of there," said Paone.

Route 3 next to the campground has been closed for a week due to the flooding.

Interstate 81 is being monitored after an ice jam caused it to close last week.  It has since reopened.

"The concern is as the ice melt continues, if we end up with larger chunks upstream breaking off and coming downstream, it could still clog and create a new ice jam," said Mike Flick, spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation.

But ice jam or not, Paone says she will be coming home.

"We will be back and better than ever," she said.
