Florida Trucker Wanted On Child Porn Charges Is Arrested Near Alex Bay

A Florida truck driver, who has been wanted for possession of sexual exploitation of minors, has been arrested at the Canadian border near Alexandria Bay.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested 52 year old Merle Shamblin of Bunnell, Florida, last Thursday.

Officials said Shamblin was traveling in a commercial truck that was denied entry into Canada and returned to the United States due to Shamblin being wanted.

Upon his arrival at the Port of Alexandria Bay, officers verified the validity of the warrant and confirmed extradition to Florida.

Shamblin is wanted for 40 separate acts of sexual exploitation of minors in Flagler County, Florida.

Shamblin was turned over to the custody of the New York State Police pending extradition.

According to the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, Shamblin had eluded capture for more than a year.

According to the article, Shamblin took his computer to a Florida repair shop in 2010.

More than 900 images of child pornography were found on the computer, the newspaper reported.
