Former Carthage Superintendent Resigns From Another School Job

Carl Militello, the controversial former superintendent of the Carthage Central School District, has resigned from a similar job in western New York.

According to the Niagara Gazette newspaper, Militello submitted his resignation from the Niagara-Wheatfield School District Wednesday.

His resignation, which went into effect Thursday, said he planned to retire, the newspaper reported.

Militello, who left Carthage for western New York in the summer of 2008, "came under fire from union representatives from the Niagara-Wheatfield School Related Personnel Association, as well as the district teachers, after reports of bullying leadership resulted in a picket demonstration last month," the paper reported.

The board of education accepted Militello's retirement by a unanimous, 6-0 vote.

After the meeting, many in the audience applauded, the newspaper reported.
