Former Fort Drum Solder Sentenced to Prison In Oswego County

A 20 year old former Fort Drum soldier, who was the subject of a police manhunt last fall, has been sentenced in connection with a different crime.

Russell Marcum pleaded guilty last Friday in Oswego County Court to attempted third-degree burglary.

After he entered his plea, court officials said he was sentenced to 1 1/3 to four years in prison.

According to the Oswego Palladium Times newspaper, Marcum burglarized Ontario Mini Storage last September 11.

On September 16, 2011, Marcum escaped military custody and allegedly led police on a multi-county car chase.

He allegedly abandoned his stolen vehicle in Oneida County after it was disabled by police.

He allegedly stole another vehicle and drove it to Tompkins County, where he eventually surrendered without incident.

In January, Marcum was accused of burglarizing local storage facilities in the Watertown area.
