Former Fort Drum Soldier Accused Of Burglarizing Storage Facilities

A former Fort Drum soldier, who was the subject of a two-day police manhunt last fall, is in trouble with the law again.

State police arrested 20 year old Russell Marcum for allegedly burglarizing local storage facilities in the Watertown area.

He's charged with:

- three felony counts of third-degree burglary
- two felony counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property/firearms
- two misdemeanor counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
- one count of false written statement, a misdemeanor

State police said Marcum burglarized U-Lock-It Storage on Route 342 and ABC Storage on Route 283 and committed other crimes at privately held properties and locations.

During his appearance in Watertown Town Court Thursday, Marcum was additionally arraigned on a felony charge of second-degree burglary stemming from a break-in at Preferred Power Sports on Route 11.

Marcum's case was held for grand jury action.

The State Police Violent Felony Warrant Squad returned Marcum to the Herkimer County Jail, where he's being detained on further burglary charges in that county.

Bail was set in the Jefferson County Cases at $15,000.

On September 16, 2011, Marcum escaped military custody and allegedly led police on a multi-county car chase.

He allegedly abandoned his stolen vehicle in Oneida County after it was disabled by police.

He allegedly stole another vehicle and drove it to Tompkins County, where he eventually surrendered without incident.
