Former State Police Investigator Considers Run For Sheriff

There's a likely new candidate for Jefferson County Sheriff.

Retired State Police investigator Colleen O'Neill, daughter of former Sheriff Al O'Neill, says she's getting a lot of support from Democratic party leaders.

"My decision is pretty much made. It'll be announced soon what my decision is," she said.

If O'Neill runs, it would force a primary with the other announced Democrat, Undersheriff Paul Trudeau.

Republican John Bocciolatt has also announced his bid for the post.

Current Sheriff John Burns plans to retire at the end of next year.
