Former Union Treasurer Accused Of Embezzlement
A former Civil Service Employees Association treasurer at Ogdensburg Correctional Facility is facing felony charges for allegedly embezzling more than $7,000 from union coffers.
State police charged 42 year old Phillip Jessmer of Waddington with one count of third-degree grand larceny and eight counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.
Investigators said Jessmer fraudulently signed eight checks - cashing them for a total of $7,616 while treasurer of CSEA Local 185 from 2009 to 2012.
CSEA officials notified state police investigators of the alleged discrepancies following a financial audit.
Jessmer had been the union's treasurer for three years and was fired in January.
He is free on probation supervision and is scheduled to reappear in Ogdensburg City Court on January 29.
