Fort Drum: Child Care Center May Stay Open

Fort Drum may have some good news for the families of 58 children who would have been displaced by the closure of a child care center.

Officials now say they may get enough resources to keep the Memorial Child Development Center open.

Last week, Fort Drum announced it would be temporarily closing the facility due to the Defense Department's civilian hiring freeze.

It was supposed to shut its doors on February 8 so its employees can provide full-time daycare elsewhere on post.

A spokesperson says it's not a done deal yet, but Fort Drum is optimistic the center will stay open.
