Outgoing Fort Drum Commander Wants To Continue Mission

A day after Fort Drum's commander was nominated to command V Corps, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Major General James Terry says he's looking forward to continuing the mission.

President Obama nominated Terry to command V (5th) Corps, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army.

Terry would also be promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.

He has been responsible for the command and control of coalition military forces in Regional Command South in Afghanistan.

In a briefing for reporters Thursday morning, the general expressed a desire to continue the mission.

"I look forward to serving as the commander of V Corps and the great possibility of coming back to Afghanistan. I'd like to see the mission that we have throughout," said Terry.

No timetable has been set yet for General Terry's promotion to take effect.

He took command of the 10th Mountain Division in September 2009.

The Army announced Thursday that Major General Mark Milley, deputy director for regional operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C., will take over command of the 10th Mountain Division.
