Thanksgiving isn't for a couple of days, but Fort Drum got an early start on the holiday on Tuesday.

Tenth Mountain Division commander Major General Stephen Townsend went to the 1st, 2nd and 10th Sustainment Brigade dining halls to serve Thanksgiving dinner.

The general and his family will also have dinner with soldiers at one of the dining halls on Thanksgiving Day.

"They serve us and they serve the country the other 364 days a year so we go up and serve them food on Thanksgiving," said Townsend.

Command Sergeant Rick Merrit also helped to serve at Fort Drum.

He and General Townsend also posed for photos and greeted soldiers at the halls.
