Fort Drum Man Sentenced In Child Pornography Case

A 37 year old Fort Drum man, who collected nearly 5,000 images of child pornography, is going to federal prison.

James Hobson was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Syracuse Wednesday.

He received 151 months in prison, which is more than 12 years.

Hobson pleaded guilty in May to a five-count indictment charging him with possessing and distributing child pornography.

According to court documents, Hobson returned home from a computer science class at Jefferson Community College in October 2012 and was greeted by federal agents armed with a search warrant.

Agents searched his home and computer and arrested Hobson.

The forensic analysis of Hobson's computers and discs found 4,732 images and 293 video files containing child pornography.

According to court documents, Hobson admitted he started collecting child pornography in 2000 and would search for images of children as young as two years old.

Hobson told agents he had a troubled upbringing.

Fort Drum said Hobson is not in the Army.
