Fort Drum Pump Station Upgrade Completed

It helped make the Fort Drum expansion possible 25 years ago, and now it's bigger and better.

The Development Authority of the North Country has finished a nearly $2.5 million upgrade of the Warneck Pump Station along State Route 37 in the town of Pamelia.

The station transfers waste from Fort Drum to the city of Watertown. But with the expansion, it also houses a warehouse, mechanical areas, and office space for 19 full-time staff.

"In addition, it now houses the engineering division as well as serving as a storage facility for telecommunications," said Development Authority of the North Country executive director James Wright.

"So with the addition of technologies and services, the envelope has had to be increased," he explained.

The renovation took about a year and a half to complete.

It includes a number of eco-friendly features, including a rainwater collection system, and recycled flooring and office equipment.
