New York State Police in Binghamton have now made contact with a missing Fort Drum soldier.

Police were looking for Gilbert Lee after his vehicle was found abandoned on Interstate 81.

Lee, 22, of Greenville, South Carolina is stationed at Fort Drum. Police say his vehicle was found Thursday at 10:30 pm. It was abandoned four miles north of the Castle Creek exit on I-81.

Police say he hasn't made contact with anyone since that time, which is unusual for Lee.  He may be carrying a rifle, but police say there is no reason to believe he is dangerous.

Lee was clean shaven when he was last seen. He has red hair, green eyes, and Latin letters tattooed onto one of his forearms. He is approximately 5'10" and 155lbs.
