Fort Drum Soldier's Murder Case To Go Before Grand Jury

A Fort Drum soldier who confessed to murdering a 64 year old woman while on leave in Delaware will have his case sent to a grand jury.

Staff Sergeant Dwight Smith is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the December 19 death of a woman.

He admitted to striking her with his vehicle and killing her with blows to the head.

Smith, who is a decorated soldier, spent time in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

He's being held in a Wilmington, Delaware jail.

Tuesday, he waived his right to a preliminary hearing and the case will now be heard by a grand jury.
