Four Arrested In St. Lawrence County Drug Bust


Four people have been arrested on drug charges following a bust in which police seized thousands of dollars in cash, marijuana, OxyContin and guns.

The St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force conducted an investigation in the villages of Canton and Potsdam on Tuesday.

As a result of the investigation, Task Force members recovered:
- $14,000 in cash
- 2.5 pounds of marijuana
- 60 tablets of OxyContin
- 1 handgun
- 1 shotgun

The combined street value of the marijuana and OxyContin was estimated at $10,000.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of the following individuals:

- William G. Bowen, age 21, 14 Lincoln Street, Canton, was charged with Criminal Sale of Marihuana 3rd, (E-Felony) and Criminal Possession of Marihuana 4th (A-Misdemeanor). Bowen was remanded to county jail on $10,000 cash or $20,000 Bond.

- Jordan C. Willette, age 22, 170 Pleasant Valley Rd, Potsdam, was charged with Criminal Sale of Marihuana 3rd (E-Felony), Open Container and consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle. Willette was remanded to county jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 Bond.

- Sam W. Gardner, age 21, 38 Judson Street, Canton, was charged with Obstruction Governmental Administration 2nd (A Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (A-Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (A Violation). Gardner was released on his own recognizance.

- Matthew P. Vanhyning (pictured at left), age 23, 6232 County Route 27, Lot 3, Canton, was charged with Criminal Sale of marihuana 3rd (E-Felony) and Criminal Possession of a controlled substance 7th (A-Misdemeanor). Vanhyning was released to supervision of probation.

Task Force members said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending against the suspects.

Assisting in the investigation were Canton Village Police, Sheriff's Department, Potsdam Police, Gouverneur Police, SUNY Potsdam Police, New York State Police and Ogdensburg Police Department.
