Grand Jury To Probe Clare MoneyA St. Lawrence County grand jury will soon investigate how a former supervisor in the Town of Clare spent town money, 7 News reporter John Friot has learned. The audit by the state comptroller's office raises questions about more than $23,000 in town expenses incurred while Nicole Curtis Dimock was town supervisor in 2010. According to the audit: - Nearly $21,000 in checks can't be accounted for - In addition, Dimock received a check for $3,075 - Dimock and her husband were each issued checks for $100 for 'educational refunds' - A $32 check was written to a financial services company. Dimock could not be reached for comment over the last week. When 7 News spoke with her two years ago, she denied any intentional wrong-doing. The audit also criticizes the Clare town board, noting "The board should take a more active role in oversight of the Town's financial records." The audit also recommends the town try to recover $2,422 from current supervisor Francis Sharpstene for health insurance coverage. Sharpstene was the supervisor before Dimock - and has since gotten the job back. While he was out of office, he attempted to pay the $2422 for health insurance under the town's 'COBRA' plan, but Dimock apparently didn't cash his checks. Dimock resigned from the town supervisor job just nine months after being elected.
