Feedback: Trimm Takes Plea Deal

Dustin Trimm will spend the next 25 to 32 years in prison after admitting in St. Lawrence County Court to killing Jason Wing by shooting him "twice in the chest and once in the head."

After lengthy negotiations, the 38 year old Winthrop man pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree criminal sexual act in a plea bargain with prosecutors.

"In cases like these, we're looking to protect the public and to see that justice is done," said District Attorney Nicole Duve.

Trimm shot 21 year old Jason Wing, who died on August 31, 2010.

Trimm buried the body off Grantville Road in the town of Norfolk.

Wing's remains and the weapon used to kill him were recovered by police in February 2012.

Other compelling evidence against Trimm included admissions he made on a wiretap.

Wing's mother, Roxanne Stratton, left the courtroom in tears.

She told 7 News that even though she endorsed Trimm's plea bargain, she said it "still doesn't ease the pain."

"No amount of admission will relieve this heartache," said Stratton.

Trimm, a registered sex offender, also faced unrelated indictments involving forcible sexual contact with a 13 year old victim and an 18 year old victim in 2010 and 2011.

His plea satisfies all pending charges against him.

"I don't know if amazed is the right word to see Ms. Duve give up two life sentences...She gave those up. She took them off the table," said Trimm's attorney, Richard Manning.

Trimm may also be reclassified as a high risk sex offender and face possible civil confinement.

In addition to prison time, Trimm is also expected to face 25 years post-release supervision.

Trimm also voluntarily wrote a note to Jason Wing's mother privately detailing why he killed her son and the day the crime was committed.

Trimm is in the county jail awaiting his August 5 sentencing.
