Update: Officials Release Pickett's Cause of Death

Update: The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department said late Tuesday night that Philip Pickett died of injuries sustained during a fight, what investigators are calling "an altercation."

Officials also said they have interviewed a person of interest in the case.

Earlier in the day, the sheriff's department called Pickett's death "suspicious" and a source said it's a possible homicide.

The body of the 33 year old man was found Monday morning at his home at 22834 Swan Road.

Yellow crime scene tape remained posted around the property Tuesday.

"The detectives once again put in long hours last night and I predict that they're going to put in another long night tonight," said Undersheriff Paul Trudeau.

Investigators are still trying to figure out how Pickett died, but said some of the details surrounding his death are suspicious.

"Even though the death investigation is a suspicious death - the public should know that there's really no reason to fear," said Trudeau.

Michael White was friends with Pickett for nearly ten years and says he'll always hold a special place in his heart.

"He was a great guy. One of my good friends. He'd do anything for anybody. He'd give the shirt off his back for anybody," said White.

7 news also reached out to Pickett's family, but they declined to comment.

Autopsy results have led police to the next step of their investigation, but officials say they still need more answers before confirming the victim's cause of death.

That could take days, they said.
