Ft. Drum Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Fort Drum officials report a 10th Mountain Division Soldier was killed in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan on Friday.

Private First Class Theodore Rushing, 25, of Longwood Florida, was killed when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

Rushing was a Cavalry Scout with the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. 

Officials say Rushing joined the army in March of 2011,  He deployed to Afghanistan with his unit in August.

Rushing was the recipient of many awards and decorations including the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon the NATO Medal and the Army Combat Action Badge.

Rushing is survived by his father and mother.
