General Brown: At Least 23 Jobs Could Be Cut
After repeatedly declining to give layoff numbers, the superintendent of the General Brown Central School District now says at least 23 positions could get the budget axe.
In addition, four programs could be eliminated.
Superintendent Steve Vigliotti posted the information on the General Brown website Tuesday at the request of the school board.
Sources told 7 News that 36 people are being targeted for layoffs, a claim Vigliotti denied.
General Brown's website lists 23 job categories.
Some of the categories indicate two or more employees in the category could lose their jobs.
The list is as follows:
- elementary classroom teachers/increase class size
- teacher assistants
- consultant psychologist
- physical education teacher
- general aides
- special education teacher
- physics teacher
- family and consumer science teacher
- technology teacher
- LOTE teacher
- English teacher
- vocal music teacher
- art teacher
- instrumental music teacher
- reading teacher
- speech teacher
- library media specialist
- health teacher
- summer workers
- assistant transportation director
The spending plan could also eliminate the following programs:
- full-day kindergarten
- modified, junior varsity and varsity athletics
- Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre
- Odyssey of the Mind
The proposed budget could also limit equipment and supplies, eliminate department heads, cut the online tax payment service and freeze teacher, administrative and SRP pay.
