Get Flu Shots Now, Health Officials Say

Tools

At this time last year, it was the peak of an early flu season and local health officials are urging people to get their flu shots now to be protected when an outbreak hits.

In St. Lawrence County, public health officials are getting ready for an emergency preparedness exercise that will offer free flu shots to those who sign up for an appointment.

There is an adequate amount of the vaccine available and residents are being urged to get their vaccinations early.

"What we want to do is to be able to vaccinate as many people as we can," said Lorraine Kourofsky, the county's interim public health director.

"We're looking at trying to vaccinate 200 people in an hour," she said.

There will be a free flu shot clinic on October 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Call St. Lawrence County Public Health at 315-386-2325 to schedule an appointment.
