Gouverneur-Area Group Hopes To Build Animal Shelter

A fund-raising campaign is being launched to help raise money for the creation of an animal shelter in the Gouverneur-Fowler area.

Volunteers from Friends 4 Pound Paws plan to march in the Gouverneur Chamber of Commerce Flag Day parade Saturday with their dogs.

Many of the pooches were rescue animals. Over the past year the group has helped place over 90 dogs and 25 cats in permanent homes.

Friends 4 Pound Paws member Clover Forsythe said, "we quickly realized there was a huge need in our community for a shelter."

The group hopes to raise $5,000 this year.
