A garage and home were damaged by fire early Monday morning in Gouverneur.

St. Lawrence County fire officials say the Cambray Street home is owned by Glenn and Christina Latta.

Five people live there, but only Christina Latta was home when she smelled smoke shortly before 4 a.m. and discovered the garage was on fire.

Officials say the garage was heavily damaged and there was fire damage to a bedroom in the home, with smoke and water damage in the rest of the house.

Investigators say they were unable to rule out the possibility an electrical problem caused the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene until almost 6:30 a.m.
