Gouverneur Man Indicted In Baby's Death

A Gouverneur man was indicted in the July 16 death of his girlfriend's 7 month old son.

Twenty-two year old Gary McKenzie of 154 Hailesboro Street faces a four-count indictment charging him with second degree murder, second degree manslaughter, reckless assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child.
The indictment was handed up by a St. Lawrence County grand jury Thursday morning.
McKenzie allegedly flung Braylin Chambers against the floor several times, causing serious brain injuries.
"It wasn't until the autopsy was performed that it became apparent that there were multiple skull fractures," said District Attorney Nicole Duve.
It happened inside Apartment 26 of the Butternut Hill townhouse apartments in Gouverneur, where McKenzie was living with the child's mother, Savana Goble.
The infant died at a Syracuse hospital several hours later after being taken off life support.
McKenzie remains jailed on $50,000 bail.
