Gouverneur Native Reflects On Career As Pro Drummer

From the streets of Gouverneur to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, it's a journey to stardom that local drummer Austin Curcuruto is proud of.

"It's overwhelming at times. To be honest with you, I look at pictures sometimes just to remind myself that I'm doing what I always dreamt of doing," said Curcuruto.

After stints as a touring drummer with American Idol performer Bo Bice, Styx and Lynyrd Skynyrd, Curcuruto has been playing in Nashville and is on the road with country singer/songwriter Craig Campbell, performing at the Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County Fair on Saturday.

"We're happy to have Austin come back," said fair manager Don Peck.

This YouTube video shows the talented drummer performing with Campbell earlier this month on the Grand Ole Opry stage.

Living the life of a professional drummer has been a blur for Curcuruto, who says he is looking forward to performing in front of his hometown fans at the fair.

"Everybody up there has always been super supportive of me no matter who I've been playing with so to have the opportunity to bring a national act up home and kind of show everybody what I've been doing is pretty special," said Curcuruto.

Curcuruto takes the stage with Craig Campbell Saturday at 7 p.m.

Tickets cost $25.
