Gouverneur Town Supervisor Robert Ritchie is describing a $140,000 settlement with former assessor Dale Raymo as "fair".
Ritchie says as part of the negotiated settlement, Raymo must resign immediately.
Raymo was fired by the town board two years ago after complaints over his job performance from property owners and a recommendation by an independent hearing officer.
Raymo went to state Supreme Court to get his job back and a judge directed the town to reinstate him with back pay.
Ritchie tells 7 News he is "definitely" happy to put the issue to rest and move on.
The town is currently operating with an acting assessor.
Raymo could not be reached for comment.
