Graduation Day at SUNY Canton

Nearly 1,000 students were recognized by SUNY Canton Saturday in the college's 105th annual commencement ceremony.

According to a press release put out by the college, approximately 964 new graduates gathered in the Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center, known as the "Roos House".

Zachary Smith was just one of those new graduates. "It has been a journey," said Smith. "I never knew the end result. I didn't know what was going to be the end result, but I just took advantage of every opportunity that was directly in front of me."

Smith used four and a half year at SUNY Canton to earn three degrees and travel to Africa to oversee the construction of a school.

Megan Mydosh also walked across the stage today, formally receiving her diploma. For her, it was the end of an uncertain journey.

"I wasn't even sure if I was even going to go to college. Then, I just kind of believe everything happens for a reason," she said. SUNY Canton president Carli Schiffner gave her final commencement speech to graduates. She will step down May 31, and Joseph Hoffman will assume her position as president of the college.
