Grand Jury Indicts Chaumont Man In Burglary, High-speed Chase

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a 21 year old Chaumont man in connection with a January 3 break-in and high-speed chase.

Zachary Piche faces 23 counts, including burglary, criminal possesion of a weapon, unlawfully fleeing a police officer, speeding and reckless driving.

He is alleged to have used a stolen shotgun to blast out a door at the Nice N Easy convenience store on Route 12E in the town of Lyme.

Piche allegedly stole money and cigarettes before leading police on a chase that exceeded speeds of 100 miles per hour on Route 12F and more than 120 miles per hour on Interstate 81.

The chase ended when Piche crashed his car.
