Grand Jury Will Hear McKenzie Case

A Fort Drum soldier accused of flinging the 7 month old son of his fiance onto his head causing fatal injuries will face grand jury action.
A preliminary hearing was held Monday for 22 year old Gary McKenzie in Gouverneur Court.

McKenzie is charged with felony reckless assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child following the July 9 incident.

Braylin Chambers died after being taken off life support in a Syracuse hospital.

Following testimony from the first trooper on the scene and a Gouverneur pediatrician who initially treated the infant, Judge Stanley Young found there was enough evidence to send the case to a grand jury.

District Attorney Nicole Duve says she is "continuing to gather information, including medical records and autopsy findings, in preparation for the grand jury presentation."
McKenzie remains held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
