Grants Awarded To Local Groups to Help Parents & Pregnant Teens

Two north country groups have received grants to help educate parents and pregnant teens.

The Maternity and Early Childhood Foundation (MECF), an organization dedicated to ensuring healthy babies and services for parents across New York, awarded $440,000 to serve young, low-income expectant and new parents throughout the state.

North Country Children's Clinic received $20,000 to provide funding which will allow the continuation of a program to support teen mothers during pregnancy. 

The program, called Healthy Outcomes, helps young parents-to-be to establish healthy behaviors so they can deliver a healthy baby and provide a nurturing environment for their child after it is born.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County received $25,000.

The money is earmarked for parent education and home visiting services.
