Griffo Says You Should Vote for Regents Leaders

State senator Joe Griffo, r-47, is blaming the state Board of Regents for the problems many have with Common Core and is suggesting a new way of choosing these educational leaders.

The 17 members on the regents board are responsible for the oversight of education in New York. Right now, state lawmakers choose the board.  But Griffo, is suggesting that you vote on a board member in May while you're voting on the school budget.

If you live in Lewis or Jefferson County your representative is Anthony Bottar and if you live in St. Lawrence county your representative is James Dawson.

"The Board of Regents are charged with education policy, so why not empower people and allow the regents to go before the people in each judicial district," said Griffo.

The state senate will vote on granting new terms to four of the seventeen members on Tuesday. Griffo says he's not voting for any of the incumbents.
