Ground Broken For New Dockside Grocery Store

More dockside grocery service is coming to Alexandria Bay.

There was a ceremonial ground breaking Friday for a new Price Chopper store along State Route 12.

The 30,000 square-foot store will have all the usual features of a Price Chopper supermarket.

It will also be the first Price Chopper to have access to a boat dock.

"It'll be a 100-foot dock. Boats will be able to come up and come into the store.  We also have plans to deliver orders that are pre-ordered down to the dock so boats can come up and just pick up their order," said Price Chopper President and CEO Jerry Golub.

It will be the second grocery store in Alexandria Bay to offer dockside service. The Alexandria Bay Big M on Route 12 also has a dock for customers.

Officials expect the new Price Chopper store to open at the end of April.

Meanwhile, the developer, along with town officials are hoping to attract other new businesses to the same site.
