Ground Broken For New Clayton Hotel

Tools

A year from now, downtown Clayton will look dramatically different.

Officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday for the new 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel.

The 100-room, four story luxury hotel should be finished by this time in 2014.

The project is the result of more than ten years of work, a commitment from two major developers and funding obtained by the North Country Regional Economic Development Council.

"We knew that if they came here, this would change our community for decades and generations to come, so we're extremely excited about it," said Clayton Town Supervisor Justin Taylor.

"It's a tremendous advantage for us as we go into the next round and apply for more funding," said Dr. Tony Collins, co-chair of the Regional Economic Development Council.

The hotel will be a year-round facility and will employ about 90 workers.
