Ground Broken for Fort Drum Connector Road

By Kris Rusho

Crews were already hard at work around Route 11 as Congressman Bill Owens joined several other authorities at the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Fort Drum connector road.

Also known as the future Interstate 781, the road will be a four lane and 4.5 mile road and will be a direct line between Interstate 81 and the installation's main gate.

The goal is to make travel better for civilians and soldiers all around.

And with a $56.5 million price tag, largely funded by federal grants and the rest with state money, officials say it is a worthwhile investment.

Estimated completion of the project is early fall of 2012.
