Guilfoyle Ambulance Pays $1 Million for New Home

For years it has been cramped for space, but not much longer.

Guilfoyle Ambulance says its purchase of the former Covidien plant on Watertown's Faichney Drive is a done deal.

Renovations could begin next week and the move could take place by early fall.

The new digs will give the company and its 130 workers about seven times the space they currently have.

"This building is slightly larger than we need, but it's going to give us growing room. We're going to be able to grow into this and offer outside services," said Dave Sherman, Guilfoyle's general manager.

"We hope to have a lot of county-wide training. We hope to have a lot of special programs that we were unable to have due to the lack of space and parking down at our other facility," said Mike Jennings, Guilfoyle's vice president.

Guilfoyle is paying $1 million for the property and plans about $800,000 in renovations.

Building a brand new facility would have cost about $4 million.
