Gun Control - The Other Side Of The Story

In the aftermath of the shooting deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, Governor Andrew Cuomo is looking to get tougher when it comes to gun control.

Governor Cuomo is expected to address the issue during his State of the State address next week.

Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush hopes the Governor isn't rushing legislation just to make a statement.

"We should take a look at, in a broad approach in a balanced approach, because there is other issues that (were) involved in the shooting in Connecticut," said Blankenbush (R - 117th District).

Avid sportsman William Scott Jr. agrees, saying this isn't a gun problem, it's a people problem.

"It needs to be brought back to the people and not the gun issue. The gun doesn't kill, it's the person itself," said Scott.

Still, lawmakers are taking aim at adding restrictions, including looking at banning large magazines, which are currently legal if made before 1994, and something called micro-stamping, a way to monitor illegal trade.

"(It's) feel-good legislation that makes everybody say, "Hey, look, our legislators are doing something about gun safety. Micro-stamping is not the answer to any of this," said Blankenbush.

What is the answer?

Governor Cuomo will likely try taking a shot at it next week.
