Harrisville Superintendent Resigns

Harrisville Central School Superintendent Rolf Waters has resigned amid controversy.

The school board called a special meeting Thursday night.

After meeting behind closed doors, the board announced Waters resignation.

"By mutual agreement, we have agreed to actually sever our relationship that we've had for ten years. It's not necessarily an easy decision, but it was the appropriate decision," said board President Jan Mosher.

Controversy surrounding Waters first began when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated in 2009.

Then, parents say another scandal erupted when pictures circulated of Waters at a fraternity party.

Some parents say it's about time Waters resigned and they're just surprised it didn't happen sooner.

"I think it has been a long time coming and I'm glad and hopefully this is the first step in us getting our school back," said parent Jackie LaPlatney.

"I support the board in their endeavors and hopefully we can move forward as a school and a community," said parent Susan Ward.

The school board said the resignation goes into effect on June 30.

Until then, high school Principal Robert Finster will serve as acting superintendent.
