Hassett Files Notice Of Claim

St. Lawrence County's former emergency services director has filed a notice of claim against the county reserving his right to pursue legal action in the future.

Marty Hassett filed the notice with the county attorney.

It is unclear whether he is intending to pursue an Article 78 proceeding to be reinstated to his former job or is considering seeking compensation for his loss of employment with the county.

Hassett was given the option of resigning or be fired by the county administrator.

Hassett resigned but later reconsidered on the day the resignation was to become effective.

He attempted to withdraw his resignation but was denied by county Administrator Karen St. Hilaire.

The county has since hired Joseph Gilbert of Ogdensburg as emergency services director.

County Attorney Michael Crowe declined comment on Hassett's notice of claim.

Reached by 7 News reporter John Friot Tuesday, Hassett had no comment.
