Hathaway Retiring As Head Of St. Lawrence County Public Health

Tools

St. Lawrence County Public Health Director Susan Hathaway is stepping down from what she describes as "a very, very difficult job."

Hathaway tells 7 News she is retiring effective August 30 after three and a half years on the job.

She made her intentions known June 17 in a letter to county administrator Karen St. Hilaire.

Sources tell 7 News county legislators learned of Hathaway's retirement last week.

She declined comment on the contents of her letter to county officials.

But 7 News has learned she cited "stress" in her job for her decision to retire three years earlier than originally planned.

She also says the termination of the Certified Home Heath Aid program and the subsequent layoff of 35 workers, was "an untenable situation".

Hathaway says she plans to relocate to North Carolina.
