Helena Fire Chief Pulls Woman From Burning Car

A Brasher Center woman is being treated for burns after being rescued from her burning car and garage by the Helena Fire Chief.

Martha Grow of 1310-B County Route 53 received burns to her hands, arms and head before she was pulled from the fire by Frank Burns, also a St. Lawrence County deputy fire coordinator.

The fire is believed to have started in a garage around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Burns tells 7 News "if it had been a few minutes more she wouldn't have made it."

Burns, who also received minor burns to his hand, says he no sooner pulled Grow from the burning car when the windshield blew out from the intense heat.

Burns had just passed by the fire scene minutes before a neighbor called 911 to report the garage fire.

Grow was apparently trying to back the car out of the burning garage and became disoriented by the heat and smoke.

Fire investigators are combing through the debris to determine what may have ignited the blaze.
