A marina in Henderson Harbor is still having problems after a gasoline and oil spill in 2000. After cleaning up over 400 tons of petroleum contaminated soil and removing five underground gas tanks in 2009, the state Department of Environmental Conservation has plans for another cleanup at Mariners' Marina off Military Road in Henderson Harbor. Among other things, the plan calls for something called an air sparging system that basically shoots air into groundwater under the marina building and forces contaminants to rise to the surface. The DEC has opened a 30 day period for the public to comment on the plan.
