High Wind Damages Construction Site In Potsdam

Wind gusts in excess of 40 miles per hour are being blamed for a roof collapse in Potsdam.

It happened Sunday at the construction site for the Lawrence Avenue Medical Center.

The damaging winds buckled several wooden trusses, bringing them to the ground.

The construction site is part of a 20,000 square foot medical office addition being built for Canton-Potsdam Hospital to help recruit primary care doctors.

Contractor Larry Danko of Danko Construction told 7 News the high winds "just picked it up and set it down".

A crane is being used to help reset and rebrace the wooden truss section.

Danko said company engineers and officials from the truss manufacturing company are on site evaluating the extent of damage and whether the wooden truss sections can be reused.
