High winds are pounding the north country, causing power outages in some areas.
As of 4 p.m. Monday:
A National Grid website showed around 70 customers without power in Jefferson County in the Grenell Island area. Officials expect to have all power back on by 8 p.m., though some could have service sooner.
Over 300 customers were without power in Jefferson County earlier Monday.
Electricity was restored in St. Lawrence County.
Power has been restored to all customers in Lewis County. Power was out earlier for customers around Copenhagen, the town of Denmark, and the town of Diana.
A high wind warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties was downgraded to a wind advisory.
The advisory expired at 4 p.m.
Winds were around 20 mph Monday morning, with gusts up to 35 mph.
Nearly 20,000 customers were reported to have lost power in other parts of New York, in a swath from Chautauqua County south of Buffalo to the Albany area.
