Historical Society Director To Step Down

The Jefferson County Historical Society will soon have a new director.

The current director, Bill Wood, is resigning next Thursday.

Wood has been executive director of the historical society for four years.

The reason for his departure?

He's getting married in June and wants to be closer to family.

Also, he wants to cut his 90-minute commute to work.

He'll start his new job at the Romano Mercedes-Benz dealership in Fayetteville, which is only a 20 minute drive from his home.

"It has been a wonderful, wonderful experience being here. I have worked with a great number of people in the community that have made our success possible over these past four years," said Wood.

Wood says the Historical Society is in a good place for the next director.

He's confident the board will select a community member who will do great things for the organization.
