Holiday Tradition Kicks Off Thanksgiving

It's a north country Thanksgiving day tradition.

The Watertown YMCA's 30th annual Turkey Day Run was off to a cold start Thursday morning.

Temperatures were in the teens on Ives Street in Watertown as 1,300 runners took off at 9 a.m. It's the YMCA's biggest family event of the year.

Runners and walkers alike showed up to burn off some calories before piling them back on at the dinner table.

"The idea here is for everybody to get out, get a little activity before they settle in for the big meal," said Steve Rowell, the YMCA's executive director.

"I usually do this every year and, I mean, I can't miss it," said Logan Kempney, who won first place int he male division,

New this year is the Thanksgiving day spirit outfit challenge.
